Citeable

Know if you get cited, not just ranked.

The problem

Rank trackers tell you where a page sits on a results page. None of them tell you whether ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, or Google AI Overviews actually cited that page when someone asked a related question.

I kept manually checking this for my own research, one query at a time, taking screenshots and logging results in a spreadsheet. It worked, but it did not scale past a handful of pages.

The research behind it

The citation-rate research on this site started as the reason Citeable needs to exist. The AI Overview audit and the entity-clarity experiment both came out of building the tracking logic this product now runs on.

Early testing showed citation position does not track cleanly with organic rank, which means a rank tracker alone cannot answer the question a marketing team actually has: are we showing up in the answer itself.

Why I built it

I looked for a tool that already did this before I started building. I found rank trackers with an 'AI Overview' column bolted on, and screenshot-based agencies charging per manual check. Nothing that tracked citation rate the way rank trackers track position, over time, with history.

So I built the tracking logic for my own research first, then decided it was worth turning into something other people could use.

What it does

Citation tracking

Daily checks across Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Gemini for a defined query set.

Competitor comparison

See which domains get cited instead of you, for the same query, and how often.

Historical trend

Citation rate over time, not a single snapshot, so you can tell a real shift from noise.

Content diagnostics

Flags whether a page has a direct, extractable answer near the top, based on the structural pattern from the AI Overview research.

Who should use it

  • SaaS and content teams who already rank well but have no visibility into whether that ranking translates into AI citations.
  • SEO agencies who need a defensible, repeatable way to report on AI search visibility instead of manual screenshots.
  • Anyone who has asked whether they even show up in ChatGPT's answer for a given query, and had no way to check without doing it by hand.

Lessons learned so far

AI engines change their citation behavior without announcing it, so a tracker built for a snapshot in time breaks quietly. The architecture needs to assume the underlying page structure will shift.

Nobody wants a single "citation score." They want to know which specific query lost or gained a citation and why, which changed how the whole reporting view is built.
