- Working through Google's AI Overview patent filings, slowly, alongside the practitioner write-ups.
- "Deep Work" by Cal Newport, a re-read, mostly for the sections on attention residue.
Researching
- Whether entity clarity changes GEO citation rate independent of content quality (see the Research section for the write-up as it develops).
- How AI crawlers handle JavaScript-rendered content differently from Googlebot, following up on the crawl-budget study.
Building
- Citeable — currently wiring up ChatGPT and Perplexity citation tracking on top of the Google AI Overview engine that already works.
- A weekly digest email for Index Signal beta users, so they don't have to log in to see crawl gaps.
Recent wins
- Citeable's core tracking engine held up through a full week of Google AI Overview layout changes without breaking, which was the actual stress test.
Currently stuck on
- Rate limiting for the Perplexity citation checks. Their response format changes often enough that the parser needs constant babysitting.
Upcoming
- Rerunning the AI Overview citation-vs-rank study on a larger sample, since the first run was 400 queries and I want more confidence in the finding.
- Opening a wider private beta for Index Signal.
